Colossal

After wandering the ruins of the Forum, we climbed the steps to the Capitoline Museums. If you get to Rome, definitely purchase the Roma Pass--good for most of the important archaeological digs (which are active...we saw many folks sifting through the sands), museums, and best of all, unlimited public transportation for 3 days. This is a super deal!

The two buildings of the Capitoline are connected by an underground passage full of grave markers. There are paintings and sculptures galore but this museum is best known for the remains of a Colossus, feet, arms, hands, head. Marcus Aurellius
rides his steed--the piazza hosts a copy on a base by Michelangelo...the original statue is housed in a beautiful modern addition to the museum.

In the second building, many of the sculptures were wrapped with a heavy version of saran wrap. We asked the guard why? He responded...the pit, pit, pit.
Ahhh! The building leaks.

4:12 AM? Are you up so early in the morning or is this our time when Google posts it?
I love the realistic detail of the Roman art: body and horse...fabulous.
