A funny thing happened...

I think this is the trip I'm doomed to lose something--in the Forum area, I lost my hat. This doesn't seem like much, but with intense sun (the light of Rome) and the temp (95 or so) hats are necessary. Since Jen was here 7 years ago, the Forum and Palatine have all been fenced in, making the area more secure. I could just imagine Caesar and his pals orating and trodding the cobblestone ways here.

I'm always on the lookout for gorgeous plantings. On the Forum site were massive bay plants, fragrant and waxy. One of the Italian tour guides the picked leaves and handed them to the folks in his group saying "these are not ruins..."
The sophistication of design and construction is so apparent in the remains of this culture.
The aqueduct system of yore provides really clear, cool water today.

Cheri,
I love the garden picture on this posting. Very impressive architecture. It is cool to see it through your lens!
