Cooking the books

On Monday I started my Book Arts class in earnest. The instructor wasted no time--our first assignment, a hand sewn, bound sketchbook journal would be due the next day.

I purchased a large pad of sketch paper at Zecchi's, Firenze's favorite art store (next door these folks restore major works of art including paintings and frescoes and supply old world paint pigments to museums all over the world). The supply fee for a studio course included bookcloth, book board, pvc glue, threads, and tools. I brought some of Jennifer's tools from home since her tools turned out to be superior.

Pictures show the preparation for a codex.
