Giardino di Boboli

In the middle of the Santo Spirito area of Florence is Pitti Palace with its wonderful green formal gardens--Giardino di Boboli. While flowers in window boxes, terracotta pots filled with greenery are frequent, historic Florence boasts little green space. The Boboli Gardens are huge, designed with trails, footpaths, pebbled walkways--a little wilderness here and there. There are formal gardens, orangeries, ponds, fountains, a flourishing rose garden, and resident kitties. Just like much of Florence right now, ongoing maintenance and restoration seems prevalent here, too. I imagine the Medici ladies strolling through the gardens when the air is fresh and cool.
