Sunlight and shadows

Florence seems to have two sides we've discovered--the light and the dark. In an opening session at Santa Reparata, an officer with the state police reminded us to watch our purses, our backpacks, to moderate our speech, and for the college-age students--to control alcohol consumption and noise levels (the noise ordinance allows for a 1000 euro fine for noise after 10:30 p.m.). I notice more the light and dark of sunshine and shadows. We eagerly weave from side to side of the street to avoid the sun since the weather is hot.

Buildings here are butterscotch, tangergine, taupe, coral, sandstone. They reflect the sun. So little green comes with the city--we have a small park near our apartment which provides a welcome break.

Via Ciompi offers up a small antique market full of cool shade.
